yellow polyp coral
I purchased a lovely frag of this yellow polyp coral yesterday. Does anyone have these? I know they need to be fed... just wondering what to feed them. The guy at my LFS recommended spectra vital, but I'm just wondering if there's something better out there?? gracias

Small pieces of fleshy foods will work very well!
FYI, yellow polyps pack quite a sting and can kill other corals. HTH

yes they do sting
I had to get rid of mine because they were spreading so fast they were touching my sps and caused a few white places to show. My yellow polyps spread all over the rocks under them in about 7 months. I did feed mine meaty foods like frozen foods you feed your fish. And they did very well.

yes
I used a turkey baster. They open back up very soon and I put even more food on them. I spot feed my corals atleast once a week so they got feed very good.

Mine grow like weeds, and I don't feed them. The catch things very well without me trying to get them to grow.
They are easy to frag, and add nice color, but I'll agree with the above - they sting. SPS seem to be a favorite (unintentional) target. Using a turkey baster seems to be the spot-feeding method of choice. For some of the others I do feed, there are frozen squid cubes that dissociate nicely - easy to spread about. Finely chopped shrimp works too. |
