Atlanta reefers
I have seen many people here from Atlanta. I have been thinking about making the 2 hour trip to see what kind of corals are there. There isn't much around here and I have ordered online some. But I am at the point that my tank is almost full and I want to get a few really special pieces to finish it. Is Atlanta a good place to get corals and how about their prices?

Well just came from Atlanta this past weekend and got some frags from a local reefer there. She goes to your area to a place called captive bred corals. Actually I had some friends go there this weekend and bring me back some early christmas presents.
There are a few good places in Atlanta. I would email Myreef for his recomendations.

Hi,
I'm in Fort Payne, Alabama. Sometimes I go to Chattanooga to get some stuff, but I think some of the places there are over priced. There is a place in Gadsden, Alabama (Lang's). Their prices are reasonable the only thing is they don't always have a great selection. They do get some great stuff in sometimes. If they don't have what I want, sometimes I order it through them. One of the petstore owners was complaining that all the wholesalers in Atlanta have been bought out by one company, and they have driven the prices way up and the selection has gone down the tubes. They are now looking for other sources in Florida and other places. But where is the Captive Bred Corals place? In Chattanooga or Atlanta? Thanks

Rhonda, Captive Bred Corals is definitely worth a look. They are only open to the public on Saturdays. They have about 20,000 gallons of corals and fish (more corals than fish). A frag 1-2" is about $10. You can see the mother colonies they were fragged from and get advice, etc, etc. Definitely well worth it. OUr club is going to make it a semi annual trip (if not more).
The best places in Atlanta are Aquarium Showcase and the Fish Store and More. Both are fairly pricey, but sometimes once you factor in shipping from Dr Mac or whoever, it is not that much difference unless you are ordering a good bit from the MO store. I think you posted this on RC also, if that was you, then JennM gave good advice and info on all the stores. Good luck...email me if you want to know something specific. HTH. |
