VERY, VERY NICE!!
Now what are you gonna do with that extra anemone? Not selling to world of fish i hope! :-) Solution: Sell it me! Or at least let me come take a look at your tank. Do you go to TCMAS meetings? Buba |

Wow Medman,
If that ID is correct, thats the first I have ever heard of that happening in captivity. I'd be interested if you ever planned on selling one of them. Have you attempted an ID on your own? Or is that just what the LFS titled them as? -Perry ------------------ Some call it evolution, And others call it God. Each In His Own Tongue (1908) William Herbert Carruth 1859-1924 |

Great, new people.
TCMAS= Twin Cities Marine Aquarium Society Lots of reefers in MN get together once a month at someones house, swap sand, frags, chit chat, that kinda stuff. Great place to trade/buy frags. Heck, you can get free xenia if you go, Agu has a TON of it. Here's a link to the TCMAS forum at reefcentral http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin...php?forumid=45 What are your tank specs? Do you have any other pics? Full tank pics? It is very, very impressive that you got one of these to reproduce, most people can't keep them alive (haven't had the guts to try one myself, don't want to kill it) Buba |

Perry,
I have attempted an ID on my own, and in my opinion it is truly a Heteractis magnifica(Ritteri) anemone. The column is a tobacco brown while the tentacles are a very pale fucia with white tips. From what I have found this color column is a common color. The size "was" probably 9", it was the largest of the 5 or so to choose from. As far as what I will do with 2 Ritteri's? I'll make sure both survive the split. I'll keep you updated. I have heard that they have split in captivity. Look for my earlier post called "what is my anemone doing???", there was a person that said they had one split. ------------------ A Fool and his Money are Soon Parted |

Medman ~
I hope you took several pics documenting the split. According to Joyce Wilkerson in Clownfishes, there has been only one reported case of a Heteractis magnifica splitting in captivity. A specimen that clones, will usually clone again. VERY COOL Buba!
It's good to know there are other reefers in MN. I have your basic 125gallon reef with 3 250w 10K MH's, 2 72" actinics, ETSS downdraft skimmer, 1 sea-swirl, lifereef calcium reactor, about 30 differnt corals mix 50/50 hard and soft. I have one LARGE and MEAN Zebra Moray Eel, purple tank, 2 true perc's(see pic's), red serpent starfish, purple linkia starfish and assorted other goodies. ------------------ A Fool and his Money are Soon Parted |

Very interesting Ninong,
I can't believe I would have such a rare occurance in my reef. There must be a wrong ID from my lfs, even though they said they got them from one of their reliable wholesalers. The only other thought I had is it's been in my tank for about a week now and it's stress, but both sides are extremely happy. There is no sign of either one dying. Who know's Monday both will have bit the dust. I have been dosing daily "Kent Coral Accel" and twice a week Kent Tech-I(iodine). All my params are where they should be. I will keep you posted with new pic's. ------------------ A Fool and his Money are Soon Parted |

Cool med, sounds like an awesome setup. I just pulled down my 65 about 2 months ago :-( due to the fact that I was in school and my beeyatch of a prof decided one day that she didn't want me to have this beautiful tank in her lab room because she is a space hogging witch so I had to bring it home, and my dad didn't want to have to take care of it, so I broke it down. I'm in the process of getting all the stuff for a 37 plus 20L sump SPS only tank.
37 SUPER RR tank (6 holes drilled, 2 for to/from sump and 4 attached to a Mag 9) 20L sump with baffles of course EV90 Skimmer, found an awesome deal on one 250w HQI 10K on a Icecap Geo CA reactor Chiller (if I make enough dough this summer) SPS corals from Dr. Mac If you frag any of your stuff, post what you have on the reefcentral forum and go to the next meeting, we always like fresh meat! :-) Buba |

Medman,
You da man. Folks are right here and you indeed are the owner of a rare event. CONGRADS!! How about detailing the event for the records with an organization such as the Breeders registry. ------------------ John Susbilla Visit my "Flashy" new site: John's Reef Flat Alternate site Here tubs@firstworld.net [This message has been edited by tubs (edited 05-19-2001).] |

BTW, what are you feeding it? According to Wilkerson, they accept shrimp and other crustaceans but very little else. That's assuming they will feed at all, because she claims that some of them refuse to eat in captivity. Also, their adult size in the wild can reach 39" across, and they frequently reach 24" across in captivity, provided they live. Good luck!
