Hi, i am starting a simple reef tank in a 3 gallon ecplise tank. SO far i just have the live rock and live sand in there and i am letting it cycle. It has been up and running for three days. Now i notice all of this white cotteny/spiderwebby stuff growing all over the live rock. Is this a normal side effect of tank cycling or something that i need to worry about. Please let me know ASAP so i can take care of it.
Thanks Andy |

Sounds like fungus. Nanos are typically not easy at all. Anyhow how is your current. You might get some spare saltwater and rinse that stuff off otherwise it'll stink you and the tank out. Anyhow welcome to Reefland and let me know how it goes.

Could i just siphon it off? THere isnt much flow in the tank, it has a filter running at 35 gph but i do have a small powerhead i could put in there I would just worry about that being too much current.
Thanks Andy |

Does the "white mass" have any cylinder looking tubes coming from the mass. It could possibly be a form of some sponge. If its white and fluffy less definate structure it could be fungus.
