My 29G ran me around $1100-1300. ...and I cannot believe I'm in the process of setting up a bigger one.
![]() It's only money, what else are you going to spend it on, food, rent? bah. |

I never keep track of the cost of my reefs. I spend the money if it is going to benefit the reef. I really don't want to know how much I have spent. I know I would be driving a really nice car right now if I hadn't decided to set up a reef. I don't regret it though.

Well let's see...
My 72g reef cost about $2500 dollars and our 135g cost about $4000. Haven't started yet on our 112g custom clam tank yet but I'm anticipating about $4500.

I'm finding that my tank is a black hole when it comes to money. My 46 gallon cost me around $1100 just for equipment. With all of the fish, coral, live rock, sand, and additives, it's easily 2 grand.

It depends...
If you are asking how much my current set up cost, it's about $1300.
If you are asking how much have I spent on worthless lights, hoods, covers, water conditioners, skimmers, filters, canisters, crushed corals, fake coral pieces, sacrificial fish, power heads, bulbs, etc. before I finally figured out what I was doing, I'd say about $2300. Fortunately, I've been able to sell most of my worthless stuff for more than it's worth on ebay! |

It doesnt bother to me talk about the money I have spent, nor does it make me regret it... I love my tank!!!! I set it at the end of Jan 2001, when I bought the tank (all glass) and cabinet from a friend for $200.00 (!!!!!! I LOVE HER!). Of course, being as anally retentive as I am I have a ledger ALL my expenses to date... the total is $2985.98 ...

Minus livestock $11,000 for a 625. I still need a cabinet for it $2,000 and a few tweaks (you know what I mean) $500. Hey it's all in your perspective. I know a few guys that spent maybe $15,000 retsoring an old car that sits in the garage with a cover over it for most of the year. I look at my tank at least twice a day (when I'm in town) and enjoy it rain or shine and especially when it's snowing.
Regards, Kevin

Well, the 29g has cost so far $819 the only thing the amount doesn't include is the filter which I already had.
The 40g is only a temporary home, and everything in it, with the exception of the fish, I already had, so I won't count that. What I refuse to do however, is count the cost of the 125g! I am looking forward to setting that tank up, but I can't even think about the money!!! ![]() |

As of now I have $5600 in my 180- no livestock. No regrets. I work with a guy who blew $3000 at the bars in 2 months and he thinks I'm crazy for spending $123.00 for a piece of liverock. To each his own.
My Dad who is in his 80s and grew up during the Depression could not understand me spending this kind of money on a fish tank. Now when he comes for a visit that tank draws him in like a magnet. This is a great hobby. Bill |

I didn't even want to figure it out... But since everyone else was adding it up...
90g setup, not including any corals or fish, but including the Live rock: about $2300 That number does not include all the tools I bought so I could make a DIY hood (Saws, drill bits, etc...) |

My 55 cost me about $1200. That was a year ago and I'm still paying on the credit cards. Does anyone need a lawyer?

This is painful to think about. I made a few newbie mistakes on some of my purchases and had to purchase some items twice.
Fish, corals, equipment (off shelf and DIY), DIY hood/stand/cabinet, supplies, tank, rocks, sand, testing equipment, lights, refugium, q-tank set up...let's see. 4 + 9 = that...carry the 2...er...hmmm... I've got the exact figure, but it's too embarassing to give out. Well over $3000. And it hasn't stopped...I'm looking at a chiller, top-off system, a couple of DIY cabinets to house some of my fish junk, and I'm going to rewire the entire system.
