DSB started working after switching to MH

I have a All-Glass 120 gallon tank. I recently upgraded from 4x110w VHO (2 super actinic and 2 actinic white) to 2x250w Iwasaki MH with 4x110w VHO super actinic. My sand bed never had any bubles in it with just the VHO and my nitrates would hang around 20ppm. Since switching to include the metal halide, I have seen all kinds of bubbles from the DSB and the nitrates are now close to undetectable. Could the increase in lighting be helping the bacteria to grow in the DSB?

    Hi Steve,
I don't belive bacteria in aquariums depend on light. If your water temp. came up a few degrees with the bigger lights, there might be a little more free O2 escaping your water, creating a more anoxic enviroment in your sand bed.

    Maybe??
It's more a science project than a fish tank
