    Spider Web

    Hey gang
I've noticed these lil Tubes growing on my rocks, kinda like a feather duster tube BUT they dont have a featherduster head or anything They release this slime that resembles a SPider Web. it just chills there and collects particles from the water

Anyone know what these are and if they are good/bad?

    thanks

Well, I can't remember the name of the critters, but I think its a barnacle or shrimp of some kind. There's a critter that feeds like that puts out a slime web, lets it collect planktonic particles, etc, then it reels it back in. Can't remember the name (or phylum, for that matter) of the critter, but that's my guess. HTH.

Vermitid snails, sessile animals that feed directly from the water column by releasing a mucus string and reeling it back in when it has captured food. Harmless.

hmm okay then what kinda creature uses long tenticals to search for food? these tenticals strechout sometimes over a foot in my tank, and they all sprout from inside a peice of LR, and moves around the tank every two months or so...

This creture does not release any mucas like the Vert snail you have ID'd for me...

    I wish i had a cam to get pics but i can't

the tentacles could be one form of what is loosly called 'sphagetti worms'. The color varies from nearly clear to a redish color in some. The laso particulate matter and it travels the length of the tentacle back to its tube, usually built from sand grains, or in live rock.

Vermetid for sure. I have one. They are neat arent they? Filtering their food with a snot trail?

My wife doesnt particularly care for the snot part but I think all critters are quite interesting

The vermitid snails are neat looking but can become a pain. I have them all over the place. And whenever i feed the rock becomes covered in their snot, rather unsightly. Iv since starte breaking off all i could reach. I just dont like seeing the mucus draped all around my corals
