The middle is a safe place to start. I have four different types of mushrooms in my 29G with PC lights (4x32w) and I have greens that light to be almost at the surface, yet some similar greens that like to be at the middle of the tank. Brown hairy ones that like being 1/4 the way up. It depends on the mushroom, you'll have to move them around until they seem to like where they are.

Just from the description though, I would guess yours are going to like being closer to the light. The lighter/brighter more translucent the mushroom in my tank, the higher it likes to be.

If the mushrooms are growing, openeing, and appear healthy I would think it is enough. From everything I've read they in general like low light, but some, like my greens; grow much faster and like higher intensity light.

If they look like they are doing well, they probably are.

I have green hairy mushrooms all over a bottom corner of my 75 and it gets 12.5 watts/gallon. I started with 2 about nine months ago and now I have 20 or so.
