Post selecting closed brain coral

I've got my eye on a closed brain coral at an LFS. However there is small amount of tissue recession (it looks a lot like the one on the bottom of page 430 of Delbeek and Sprung Volume 1). Is this indicative of an unhealty specimen, or is some of that recession not atypical?
Thanks,
Tom G.

Hey Tom,

I have a very similar Favia spp.. When I got mine it did have a little bit of tissue rescession, but not enough for me to worry about it. If its only a polyp or two that don't look so well, it should be fine once put in a stable home. Just be sure to check it out really good, and don't get it if you have any doubts.

Mine has recovered completely, and has noticably grown.

Thanks Perry. In terms of light and water movement, what does your coral do well with?
