Red face HELP! Maroon clown trying to get high?

Ok, now maybe he isn't the most intelligent clown in the world but I would think that he would know that he isn't going to get high off of any of the "shrooms" in my tank.

I don't understand it, I have had this guy the longest out of ANYTHING in the tank and today he started MUNCHING on every mushroom he can get his mouth on. Blue ones, red ones, hairy browns and greens. He isn't just nipping, he is SUCKING on them, on the hairy ones he is taking in as much of the "hair" as he can possibly fit in to his mouth and sucking on it. I moved the green ones and put some blue ones in their place....there he goes again. So I moved the blue ones and he went and found some others.

I thought well, maybe he is hungry, so I fed them. He went, ate, and returned to his munching. Everything is stressed now, he has hit them all at least once.

So, here is what I want to know, is what he is doing an attempt to do something beneficial to the shrooms or is he actually trying to eat them? I would like nothing better than to drop him center ice and slap shot him from the red line in to the glass (sorry, to much hockey lately).

Anyway...HELP!!!

Not for lack of trying. I turned off all the lights and will take a look at the damage in the morning.

Maybe he will behave normally tomorrow.

If you have strong enough lighting and high enough water quality get her a buble tipped anenome and she'll never leave it, Problem solved..Only do this though if you will be able to sucessfully keep one alive..Dan

Clowns will suck on an anemones tentacles to make themselves immune to the sting, or get used to it... probably your clown is looking at taking up a host...

-Lisa

[EDIT] .. No offense Bamm Bamm, but purchasing an anemone should never, ever be offered as a 'solution' to a (perceived) problem.

If someone is an experienced hobbysit I don't see why a suggestion to keep the easiest of all anenome's is a bad idea..Given the proper conditions many, many anenome's thrive in captive tanks and many people BTA's spawn on a continual basis..
I've had a sebae anenome, for 9 months now and these are one of the hardest anenome's to keep

Bamm,

The problem I see with that approach is that you don't know peoples experience levels - and that includes not just the original poster or respondents, but the lurkers.

Sure - if people are here, they probably know about anemones abyssmal success rate. But then Random_Newbie00 sees your post and says

'wow, Bamm Bamm has XXX number of posts and says if I have strong enough lighting (well, I have 4 flouro's, thats two more than the shops - it MUST be strong!) and high enough water quality (the shops nitrates are 40, mine are 20! must be high water quality) I can just go get me a big ole bubble-tip anemone!

I know, this is a bit overboard /shrug.

Anyhow, just IMO.

Don't take offense Bamm, I'm sure LisaJill was just trying to point out that I could be some good ol country boy from Alabama who doesn't know the difference between a Durso standpipe and a hole in my arse. :-)

Anyway, so should I leave it alone for another day and see what happens? I turned on the lighting this morning and he went right back to doing it. He seems to be most interested in the green hairy mushroom.

Kholladay....I'm from Alabama, but I'm not a country Boy. And just for the record, my light switches at home work when I turn them on.....

I knew it...I KNEW IT!!! As soon as I hit submit I KNEW there would be someone from AL here to set me straight. Just keep in mind that I didn't say that everyone from AL was a "good ol country boy", but rather that LisaJill might have been makeing that assumption.

Damnit JCS, don't you people from AL have anything better to do than post all day long? Look, we both registered at the same time and you have well over double the amount of posts that I have!

HE DIED!!! The stupid thing just up and died on me. Everything in the tank seems to be doing great (with the exception of the slime algae problem)...the shrimp both molted recently, one of them the day before yesterday. Corals all look great, as wide open as they could be. I am at a complete loss. Maybe the thing got sick from sucking on to many shrooms and OD!!!
