Coral growing over bubble algae.

This bubble algae has been growing for months in the middle of my polyp colony. As the bubble grows it keeps tearing the polyp base and creating new baby polyps The bubble is about the size of a large egg! Is this a strange thing? When the bubble pops there will be a polyp shaped crater. Just thought you guys might think this was neat...

Wow. thats one hurkin bubble, I've never seen one that large before. Good work. I don't know if it is strange for the stuff to grow that large, but the biggest I've ever seen it is about the size of a marble.

Wow, nice!!

I'm thinking Guiness Book of World Records for largest single bubble algae.....hehehe

Are those green polyps growing right "on top" of the bubble???
I'll be afraid when that thing pops and a whole ton of smaller bubble algae will appear from the spores.

Cool

Firefish:
That is neat. It's like the "wild kingdom" in action. Thanks for sharing.

Freaky! I'd be afraid of it popping too and a tank full of them. How long has it been growing?

Ya, I have a few bubbles in the tank, I pick them every once in a while. This one started growing about 3 months ago, the strange thing is that it started growing off the rock but now it's not even touching the rock. The polyps have pushed it up from the rock and now they are growing over it. The Bubble is about the size of a jumbo egg! The polyps must be helping it grow or something. Anybody know how large these things grow in the wild???
