Wafer (Waffle?) Algae: Good or Bad?

I have an outcropping of a brown macroalgae growing under to skimmer return in my 55+.

As best I can tell, it appears to be a type of Wafer or Waffle algae. My research reveals both good and bad comments about this stuff.

Any experiences with it or thoughts about it? I can't get a decent photo of it as it's way back in the tank.

I've been told it's a nuisance algae and it's bad. I, however, have some taking over a rock in my tank. Don't know how the heck to get rid of it since it doesn't come off easily. If you figure it out, let me know!
