Candy coral breeding update
It has been over 2 months I think since my Candy Coral decided to do it's method of breeding. Just wanted to show everyone how it is going. Here are the original shots and new pics after the babies grew heads, I will keep everyone posted as the grow. Oh and a week ago it started to even drop another, that will make five. I only have four because Scott (member of the board) got number five from me a few weeks ago. He said it was doing fine.

I have had this one since the beginning so I have no idea what I payed for it, was not much though. After killing other corals this one must be easy to keep. It has a broad range of lighting. Probably as low as VHO's and as much as MH's.

WOW is right! I have had mine for about a year and a half now. As a matter a fact it was the first coral I ever bought. I keep it close to the bottom of the tank, with 315 watts VHO. I would put it in the "good beginners coral catagory". Can't wait for mine to do that some time.

Hi All,
Candy Cain Corals (Caulastrea furcata) is one of a group of beginner corals. But giving them conditions where they are happy enough to reproduce is another story. But “just” to get them to grow, they will tolerate a large range of light intensities. I have kept them under everything form NO Tritons, up to and including 400-watt metal halides. They are on of my favorite LPS corals. Snoopdog – Very Cool. Regards, Scott Passe

Wow, nice!!!
This makes me remember how my goniopora asexually multiplied. It is awesome to see these pics!!
I'm wondering if the other coral stung the candy cane as it dropped. It looks as though it dropped right on top of what looks like star polyps. Looks like pinnules of a different species though. Regards, Ilham |

They did land on them since it is directly above it. Was not a problem though as they are doing well and are forming and starting to develop a base. When they fell they just look like green skin and bone fragments. It is cool how they have developed.

The one that I have is doing great. I got it from snoopdog a couple of weeks ago. At the time it had only two of the circles formed. After about 2 weeks I noticed the sweeper tenticles. Now it has three of the circles formed. I read that it was a slow grower but mine is doing good under 4 110 watt VHO's on a 55 gallon tank. It was one of my first corals.

A few ques's if u dont mind.
What do you keep the temp of your tank at? What kind of flow is on the candy cane? Have you noticed if the reproduction occured around a full moon? Job well done....im envious!

Well not sure about the moon but I it is slow slow there is no way to tell, this piece dropping now is going on three weeks and has not fallen off yet. My tank temp is around 76-80 at highest part of day. Water flow in the area is moderate and has varied with me moving powerheads etc. One thing I love about this coral is that it tolerates my mistakes on too much or too little water flow.
