Dwarf angels in reef tanks

I know this has been a topic of debate and there are many variables, but...who here has experience keeping a reef tank with a dwarf angel in it. Specifically a coral beauty or a bicolor. Is one more "reef-safe" than the other? Are there corals that would be "relatively" safe? I know there are no guarantees, but I'm looking for first-hand experience. TIA. JWT

Hi jwtrojan44,
I have a Coral Beauty in my reef tank. I have had him for a while now and no problems what so ever, except for a few slight cases of ick he/she had at the beginning that I have cleared up.
I do have a Green Open Brain coral and these fish have been suspect to nibbling on them. But my Coral Beauty has never touched it. I have also read that they like to pick on clams, but I don't have one of those.
HTH,

I have 125 gal reef with a Coral beauty in it. there are clams, sps, softies, LPS. she has never harmed anything been in the tank about 1 year. I have 55 gal reef, with 1 clam and the rest softies and LPS. I have a Black Nox angle in it. same about 1 year with no problems. I just added a Flame angle to my 120 gal Sps, and clam tank, been in about 2 months so far so good.HTH

Thanks for the replies. This is what I was hoping to hear. I have both a CB and a bicolor (separate tanks) and would like to put one of them in my upcoming reef set-up. I've also heard that sometimes they do well for awhile and then begin munching. I'm willing to take the risk, though. Anyone with a bicolor? JWT

Well, I had a Bi-color in my first reef tank and it did not touch my corals or clams. I have had CB's that did nip at my clams and feather dusters. I recently had to get rid of an african flameback who after 6 months in my tank decided he wanted start nipping at everything. So in saying all that I do not keep angels anymore it is just to risky for me to tear apart my tank to catch those little @#$@!. I do miss them though they are the most colorful and have the best personality. Just my 2 cents.

I have a flame and a pygmy angel in my reef, they have not bothered any of my corals, frogspawns, star polyps, leathers, etc. They have too much fun nipping algae from the glass.

Each angel is different.......

Here is a crazy one for you. I purchased a small pulsing Xenia, my 6 line wrasse picked this clean. I never new they ate corals???? a strange but true story.

Needless to say I am somewhat encouraged. I was a bit more comfortabe with the CB, but I have the bicolor in the tank that will be the reef. I'll try him out and see what happens. If he starts munching, I can move him to the other tank and try the CB.
Hey redetek; been to Sea Cave lately? He has received some very nice stuff. Thanks again for the input. JWT

I was actually there at lunch today, he has two nice Chevron tangs among other interesting species.

I have been at the point I choose not to add anything else to my 220 as the tankmates are happy, I am looking at setting up a 75 gallon reef in a room with my home theater. I wonder how fish like deep bass blasts?

Those chevrons are indeed beautiful. I love that scribbled angel and that emperor angel going through the color change is nice too. It looks like I've got to invest in a larger tank. As far as the noise from the home theatre, I don't think they'll be bothered by it, however I do notice that sometimes when I practice my bagpipes, I hear small gurgling voices crying out from behind the live rock..."FRREEEEDOMMM!"
