Ive used rios, penguins and maxijet. I would have to go with Maxi jets as I have never had a problem with them and their suction cups stick forever and they have never died on me yet.
I just got a wave master pro last week and hooked 4 MJ 1200 to it and works great. 2 of the 1200's ive had for over year.

I have been using Pengwins in my tank for at least 3 years now with no problems. I still have Rios in my sump too that are working fine after 2 years.Mike

Before I switched over to SeaSwirls, I ran Maxi's in all my tanks. Very "bullet-proof". I now use my maxi-jets for circulating and pumping water during my water changes. I had 1 rio before that died after about 4 months.

As far as in tank PH's, there is no doubt in my mind that the Maxi's are the way to go. Gemini's are powerful, and if you use a big pump for circulation, the sea swirls are sweet.

Maxis here too, the others've said it all above. The maxis are really reliable, never lost one.

In a small tank I use the Micro-jet, made by the same company, also great and pumps like hell for its tiny size.

My only criticism is the humming noise. Soon I'll try a sea-swirl instead.

Aquaclear powerheads rock! I'm a big fan of "heavy duty" equipment and those ph's are definitely made well. They're performance is outstanding.

I have 5-6 Rio's, 2-Hagen Aquaclear 802's, and 1-Maxi Jet. 1 of the 802's and the MJ are 5+ years old and still running strong. I can't say that for any of the Rio's.

The hagen aqualclear 802's are awesome, but huge. I used to run one for my return pump on my sump when I first started and it worked really well. Low flow at 3' return, but it worked.

They also have more torque in my opinion than most powerheads of similar size; while not a good thing, I've seen mine suck in a small catfish and spit out chunks.

That's an accurate way to test the overall output of a powerhead, right?

Hagen 802's are the way for me.
For those of you using 802's for return pumps, you will be amazed at the output at the tank level if you use 1" hose. I bush the power head output tube to 1" diameter and use 1" hose and the flow is tremendous compared to a hose that actually fits the 802.

I love my Maxi-Jet 1200's. I had good luck with Penguin 1140's, but they are bulky and unattractive.

I've personally never had any trouble with Rio's, but based on the advice on the boards, I don't use them any more. I'm using a Mag-Drive 5 to run my Remora Pro skimmer.
