A friend is traveling to Pensacola from Lubbock and I was curious if there is any place with Southdown sand on the way or not to far out of the way.
He is traveling in a pickup and I need 1,000lbs of it so using Southdown sand will save me over $500 even if I pitch in a $100 or more on his gas bill. I would appreciate any help in locating some along the way. Thanks in advance! Nathan ------------------ Always get a 2nd opinion. (and a 3rd, 4th, etc...) Check out my Homepage |

Nathan, unfortunately it is not available at any of the Home Depots in any of the areas you mentioned. The only places along the way that you might be able to get some would be from hobbyists who have ordered it by the pallet load and paid freight to get it.
There was a hobbyist in Houston (yeah, I know, not on the way) who ordered a few pallets and was selling it for $15 per 50-lb bag, but he ran out several weeks back. There is a hobbyist/entrepreneur in Baton Rouge who had/has a couple of pallets of it, and was/is selling it for $15 per 50-lb bag, but she was doing this as a service for her "customers," since she is in the aquarium maintenance business. I don't know if she still has some or if she would be willing to sell 1,000-lbs of it to someone from out of the area. The price she charges just covers her cost, including freight, and she does it mainly to attract new potential customers. Besides her maintenance service, she also maintains about 7 or 8 reef tanks and sells captive-bred clowns and captive-cloned rose E-quads, among other stuff. I ordered mine from Reefland.com and it came to 22.50 per bag delivered. Not as cheap as buying it from HD but a hell of a lot cheaper and easier than driving to the east coast.
My 3 bags should be here this week and I cannot wait. Thanks Scott! BTW, Biomanjcs72, is there any good Reef stores in B'ham. Huntsville is not very good. I would drive the 1.5 hours for a good LFS. Ryan [This message has been edited by orion25 (edited 05-21-2001).] |

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I would like to jump on the bandwagon as well about wanting southdown in AL or FL, I'm in B'ham, and the HD's up here, don't have it, (haven't inquired about ordering it special yet though.)
