Best online source for IO salt in bucket

Has anyone recently looked for the best online deal for Instant Ocean salt in the 200 gal. bucket? I've found it for $54 - $10 coupon at Petsmart and $52 at Petco. This is a lot higher than the last time I ordered (6 mos. ago or so).

Is this the best, or do you guys know a better way or source?

Thanks!

Ann

Here is the best deal at the present time on Instant Ocean salt:

Petwarehouse.com was recently acquired by drsfostersmith.com, which leads to some interesting possibilities ~~

I happen to have a copy of the Pet Warehouse Holiday 2001 catalogue in my hand. On the back of the catalogue it reads "Save 10% on Instand Ocean as shown on page 74."

Then you go to page 74 and it says the regular price is $34.95 per 200-gal bucket, shipping weight 67 lbs. OK, so 10% off that price = $31.46 per bucket. Not bad but they used to charge an extra surcharge over and above their regular shipping charges on salt. But wait a minute... when you call the 800 phone number, you end up with the new and improved drsfostersmith people and they have an entirely different setup on shipping charges, i.e. cheapy shipping.

So... you can actually order the IO at the old Pet Warehouse catalogue price of only $31.46 per bucket and get really cheap shipping, too! They will ask for the reference number that is printed on the mailing label of the catalogue. You can use the number on my catalogue: Reference # XYPR34. I don't think the customer number is really necessary, just tell them you borrowed my catalogue.

Anyway, the bottom line is this: A guy on another board just ordered two of the 200g buckets and his total including shipping = $70.91. They only charged him a total of $7.99 for the shipping because their shipping schedule is based on the dollar amount of the order without surcharges for extra heavy items. Evidentally their new regular price on salt is much higher so that they don't have to add extra for shipping.

But, for the time being, you can get the old cheapy price on the salt with the new cheapy price on the shipping. The phone number is 800-443-1160.

I hope we don't run them out of business like we did Petopia.

Regards,

Ninong

P.S. added 11 a.m., 12/28/01: According to Ltspd this trick no longer works. Looks like they caught on already.

Unhappy

Ninong,
Just tried the PW deal and didnt get it. They told me (I called) that they would give me 10% off but charge me with the old shipping rate. The lady told me that they will begin to honor the DrFoster rates mid Jan, but will be marking the cost of the salt up to make up the diffrence. I went to the DrFoster site and the 200g bucket was around 45.00 plus shipping. They may have caught on too quick.

I used to order salt from www.rcsteele.com I would order (4)50g bags and not be charged heavy shipping, just regular rates, they also caught on
