BTL,
I would say on a scale of 1-10 they need about a 5. I'm sure this doesn't help you much so how about you telling us what you plan to do and we can go from there. I have kept shrooms and softies under 4x55 watt PC's in my old 55 and they grew very very well. I now have a 150 gal tank with 900 watts of MH lighting and the PC's, the shrooms don't look as good as they did in the 55, I have one small red sea xenia in there and its doing fine.....

I'm going to see if I can move this thread to the reef forum

Mark

I would agree with Mark, they will do good under low (by comparison) lighting.

P.S. - Moving over to the Reefs forum.

In my experience, the green mushrooms (metallic) seem to do well under both conditions. I've had them in 2X55 PCs with bulbs split between 03 act. and 10000k white and now moved into the 80 gallon with 2X250 Watt MH lighting. They stay open all day long. Now, as wiht the red/striped mushrooms, I believe they like the lower light intensity of the PC's. They don't open all the way as much as they did before.

Just my experience.

Ilham

A somewhat related subject:

How much water flow do they need?

Do they need fed? I have heard they are entirely photosynthetic - is this true?

Question

I hate to bump this up but I would also like to know how much current and if they need to be fed.
Thanks

mastaj,

I do not feed my mushrooms directly, but just feed the entire tank when feeding fish. In my opinion, there shouldn't be direct feeding of mushrooms (almost impossible).

With water flow, advise against direct water flow, or anythign that will flip one side of the mushroom over to the other side, or make it stand up vertical. I have mine in low flow areas, where the edges of the mushroom leaves sway just a tiny bit.

Ilham
