I'll go for a good BB vs. DSB debate; I've used them both.

Old thread but I'm gonna post since it was dug up. When I had the junk coralife 28 watt 50/50 I had nice corraline starting to spread from what came on the LR, even started to grow on the glass. Since I added the 260w the rich purple is fading to a dull green. The pink is still spreading but only in the lower light areas. What little spots were on the glass have disappeared.

Samper,
It'a ll in adjusting to the new lighting over your tank. Given time, you will get more pick's and purples. ![]() |

It's not a big concern just a small observation.

Ok Off the wall question here about DSB verses Bare Bottom. Do you think the BB will have any effect on the growth of coraline?. Does the DSB possiably buffer the tank and in some way increase growth of it?
If this is totally off here please let me know just another question to consider Jeff

Bare bottom will just give the corraline more surface to grow on IMO. My LR is up on pvc stilts and my powerheads keep a nice flow going underneath the rock work to keep the deitrus in suspension for my skimmer. The glass on bottom that is shaded is getting a nice coat on it. The corraline growing in my system seems partial to a very high flow and lower lights.

The algae that you are describing is beneficial coraline algae. It may die off and come back, so don't be alarmed by the cycle. BTW - this is the longest running thread I've ever seen. It feels good to tagging it.

This is a major generalization, but if you can rub it off with your finger, it's bad. If you have to scrape it off it's good.
