How many firefish ?
I am pulling my Yellow Tangs out of my 75 gallon and will be adding two Purple Firefish that I have quarantined for a month. There is also a Royal Gramma and two Banjai(sp?) Cardinals that are quarantined that will be added to the 75 gallon. Only other thing in the tank are a Mandarin, Flame Hawk and some Gobies. Question is how many Firefish can go in and can you mix like Purple and regular Firefish. Any other recommendations of fish are welcome I am trying to get some ideas.

I've heard that the gramma can be pretty agressive towards other bottom dwellers(like your firefish).
I don't know anything about mixing FF species....., but they may be territorial against other FF. ![]() |

Might be a good Idea to have a screen over your overflows too. Mine were always ending up in the sump. They like to Jump

Good call on that Strang96, I have been down that road before. I have the back covered with a mesh material at the overflow has the same plastic mesh that stops the smaller fish from going in. I had a fish in there for over a month and had not idea because of the algea coating the side of the overflow. You really can't see in so I figured it was empty

You can introduce as many as 5 purple firefish as long as there's only 1 male. If you happen to get 2 or more males they will fight til death until only one survive. Female firefish is smaller and has a slender body than the male. The purple firefish (N. decora) comes from deeper waters than their orange/red (N. magnifica) cousins so they're more shy than the latter.
I've had 2 of each species in a 29 gal and there was no prob, the only thing is the orange hangs out more often than the purple. Gia

as long as the firefish are acclimated at the same time, thus providing the fish a chance to "choose" a territory persay, there should be minimal conflict, if any. although the sex of the fish should always be kept in mind. this method will often work for various species of fish although always keep future growth of the tank in mind, as to aviod future conflicts.
