Just got my new Nikon

I just got my new nikon 995 last night. Tried a few shots, had to size them down. I cannot wait to really use it, these are just test shots. Having trouble with the autofocus, once perfected this one will take some awesome shots.

Let me say it, just let me say it. "holy sharks fin's BATMAN!!!!!!!!"

That Acro is SWEEEETTTTTTTTTT........ For days. Let me have a frag (PLEASE) JUST A FRAG< ALL I WANT IS ONE LITTLE FRAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those polyps are nice to. The nikon 995 is a great camera. I got a 775 from my father in law for christmas and a flat bed scanner so I can scan the pictures I have taken with the regular 35 mm. Give us all a total tank shot. I know you can do it. You have the camera, now just take those shots and post'em. Don't play with us man (west coast rappers will war witch'a and you don't need it man) Don't make us run ya man....

Nice pics (excuse my alter ego)

I am moving the tank around on Sunday to get rid of the two yellow tangs. When the water clears back up and the corals open from the shock then I will take some more pictures.

Very nice Snoop!

I'm sure glad you sized them down first. I only have a 19" monitor.

Here are a few more, the only problem I am having is getting completely focused on the target. I have tried a spot focus, center weighted and matrix. None seem to do real well. I know I can get clearer shots but will take some practice with this camera.

The biggest thing is to make sure the flower is up which means it is set for macro shots. Keep a steady hand and make sure it is focusing on the subject and not the glass.

Maybe I can help you with the focus problem. The spot, matrix, center-weight that you speak of are actual three metering types. Metering takes care of the exposure of the shot that you are taking. Changing the three will not affect focus sharpness. I have shot pics of my tank and other macro items with my SLR and CP950, Spot metering works well with medium toned items, if not, shoot in Matrix metering. Nikon's metering systems are great! As far as focus, there is a term called Depth of Field. This corresponds to the amount of the image that remains in focus in a shot. You can adjust this in manual mode, by increasing the f stop #, therefor decreasing the aperture. In the macro mode, try shooting at f8 or higher, you will need a tripod or something to avoid camera shake from a resulting slow shutter speed due the the high fstop.

Let me know if you have any photogrpahy related questions! This unfortunately has become another expensive hobby for me!

finally registerd after a year of lurkin

good way is

1. get a tripod.

2. use a timer - YES a timer, set it for 3 second (tap twice) and LEAVE IT ALONE!
no shakes etc.

3. Another simple 'trick' Set your lenses at Fisheye 2 - for FC-E8 converter lenses, dont use it ho, but it locks at 15.3mm, The macro point. No zoom avalible, all flashes off. - the lens setting is also useful with no adaptor at all, when you want to move the lens to a locked intermediate position, The lens comes out to rest right at the macro sweet spot, ready for your next ultra close up. Barrel distortion at this point is virtually zero.

again, use timer when you go in macro mode, so your finger doesnt jerk the camera resulting a blurry picture, and making you feel like a jerk

it WORKS.

Could you please post the camera settings and size dimension (resolution, picture size, file format) for these awesome pictures. I can't seem to be able to keep the file size below 100K for a decent pix.
Thanks,

These were done at 1024x768 at the camera and sized down then compressed. I used a program called L-View Pro to size them down and compress them. It decreases the size by 2/3 most of the time. The camera is set to manual on macro mode with metering set for the center. I think the white balance is set to auto, but pictures only turn out real good with the halides on during the day. Final thing is the camera is on a tripod. I still think I need that macro lense
