Red face I need something to catch the crabs !!

Hi friends,

I really need some help from you.My problem is that I need to make something that catch the crabs that are in the tank.
I don't know what crabs are these but I think that they are harmfull and eat fish.In this last month 2 fish were missing.

So these crabs are all white and with brown hands. They are big about 2-3 inch.

Can someone tell me and if he can makes me a diagram, on something that I can put in the tank to catch these crabs.

-------------
I tried to catch one last night with a net but they are too smart.

Thumbs down

My idea is try to find them at night and catch them then,it will be alot more diffuclt for them to see your hand coming. But if they kill fish you might just want stab them with something pointed, instead of getting your finger taken off.

Try getting length of PVC, drilling a hole thru it off center. Make a trap door using a piece of plastic from a 2 liter soda bottle. make sure the door is big enough to fit the PVC opening. Shove a bamboo skewer thru the hole in PVC, thru the trap door twice, then out the other side of the PVC. The door should be large enough to open in but not out. Plug the other end of the PVC and bait with some shrimp. Make sure the door swings in easily. This should work like some live animal box traps. The crab will push thru the door but won't be able to push it back out. Hope this makes sense to you. Bill

Question

Let's go back to this white crab w/ brown claws. I have one that came in on my L/R as a baby and now is about 1 1/2 inches. So far he has been harmless and does not appear to be aggressive towards the fish. My Sally Lightfoot on the other hand is territorial. Does anyone have or know of information on thesee crabs ? TIA

Fisherman, I have a couple of ideas for you for traps.
The first one is the Xterminator trap works pretty good for catching hitchhiker crabs. The second is to cut the top off of a plastic water bottle or soda bottle. Then take the top piece and invert it back into the bottom piece off the bottle, then throw some bait into the bottle and sink it.
The crabs will crall in but won't be able to crawl out. The last and easiest is to get a glass jar or cup lien it against the rock where you think the crab is at, put a piece of shrimp (bait) in the jar and the crabs will crawl into the jar but they won't be able to get back out.

Good Luck,
Sker

Fisherman,
Sker has the right idea on this. I had to go back in time in my crabbing days. My design works but it's too much work and being that little will need a lot of playing around with. Last night I used my kids paint program and drew up what sker is thinking. We used that design catching blue crabs years ago but with chicken wire instead of a bottle. It worked great. Bill
