How Much Bigger????
I can remember when I had the biggest fish tank on the block...a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium.
Reading posts today, I see several tanks in the 500-650 gallon size! I just wonder what the practical limit will wind up being for a home reef tank? My little 55+ is like the fish bowls of old. Do you folks with the 120-200 gallon tanks plan on increasing even more? |

Few years down the road maybe go to a longer tank, but wouldnt go up much on the gals. I am at 168 now, maybe 225ish at the most. IMO, and my wallet I would have a hard time with much larger.

I'm one of those with a 625gal system and am in the planning stages of a larger tank 6 years out. It took me 1 year to design, 1 month installation, and now I'm in the growout and filling stage for the last 6 months. I think the planning time (read dreaming about) is one of the best aspects of building a reef system. It seems to me that it is a evolution process. First is the design stage then the procurement stage, installation, development, grow out, and no more room
= bigger/another tank . My next project will have dimensions in the neighborhood of 16'L X 4'W X 30"T Regards, Kevin

We're planning a 400-500g "in-wall" system in 1-2 years.

I have a 300 gal reef and am in the planning stages of a 900 gal that I want to use as a room divider for a room addition. The addition is planned to occur this summer so, if the stars are properly aligned, I should have it up and running some time after that.
I know a couple of local people that have tanks in the 500 to 1200 range. Of course, there's that guy with his 4000 gal concrete tank in MN and Harker with his 2000 gal concrete tank in MD. I'm actually looking at this as well (concrete) but am 99.9% sure that I will go with a regular glass tank instead. Randy |

I think all glass would make a better divider if you want to see 3 sides which is probally the coolest way to veiw a tank. Concrete i would use if I wanted to make privacy and viewed from only the front. I wish I had an area for concrete since I work with and know alot of ppl who do this work= almost would all be free err.... just beer but that could be $$$ also. I'm planning an upgrade not as big as some but I want a 240+ in my wall so I can have my current 120g in the garage as a refigium and equipment area. And no noise. I'm planning now but probally won't happen for a few years but I will have enough time to get it right!!!!!!!= thicker top= no brace ,closed loop bulkhead ect..ect..

Well I had my 90gal for a little over a year, Now I have had my 220gal for over 2 months. I guarantee you that if I didnt dive then I would already be building a bigger one........The more i look at Mr4000's setup the more I love it!!! I would love to have my own reef that I could just go diving in anytime....right in my living room
I think I might get more tanks within the next couple of years but probably nothing bigger. The next house I get im sure I will be planning for a 500g + tank built in the wall.
