One thing that surprised me as I read the article in my usual morning blurry-eyed stupor is that it said less than 2% of the corals in people's fish tanks were captive propagated. I find that hard to believe. All of mine are, and it isn't like I went way out of my way to do that. I thought it was good that it made the point that people are importing stuff from reefs in other countries that you cannot collect legally in US waters. This has always struck me as hypacritical.

wg, you have to keep in mind that those on the boards are barely a smidgen of all the reefers in the country. Even most on the boards likely have a majority of imported coral. I am not surprised by that number, especially since I am a one or two day a month LFS employee. I see what people are buying. We do sell alot of propogated, and ORA stuff, as well as alot of captive grown clams, but a mojority of it is imported. There just aren't enough captive sources to keep a buissness with.

Post SJ Mercury Article - Saving reefs: a collective approach

In the Science and Health Section for the May 22 edition of San Jose Mercury News - "Environmentalist hope to gain an ally in US hobbyists".

Interesting reading of which the goals of MAC are something that we should look forward to supporting today and tomorrow.

I couldn't access the online version of the SJ Mercury for some reason from my computer so if somebody else can check to see if it is available online please post the link.
