Post Crocea clam on bottom of tank

I got a very nice purple crocea clam last Friday. It is about 4 inch and supposed to be tank raised. I have it under 400 watt MH. I put it on a rock and it jumped off. So I figured it didn't like it there so I put it on another rock and it jumped off again. It kept jumping down on the sand like it wanted to be there. Its muscle came attached to a small rock so I do have something to work with. So I put a small rock on the sand and put the clam on this rock and put another small rock beside it to help hold the clam in place. The clam really seems to like it here and hasn't made any attempt to move. I have heard these clams need a lot of circulation and I am worried it may not be getting what it needs so low in the tank. Is there any way I can tell if it isn't getting what it needs?

If it's mantle is extending nicely over the shell, and it is firmly attached to a piece of rock I would leave it there. If it isn't happy you will know. With a 400 watt MH you have a bit more flexibility as to the depth it can be placed.

Good Luck

Just like corals they need to be properly acclimated to intense lighting as well and have the potential to bleach. Maybe it is saying lower me down first and then slowly work me up the ladder? . I have lots of info on clams on my site so you can check that out as well.

Tubs,

YOu have a great website. I love the Flash intro. I have Flash version 5, but really don't know how to animate with it.

Regards,
Ilham

I have a couple of Crocea's (one gold, one turquoise) and both are on the sand bed attached to rocks. The sandbed is about 14 inches below the water surface. Lighting is one 250W HQI MH ... they seem to like it just fine down there, although one is attaching to a rock kind of sideways, I hate it when that happens.
