could someone ID this disease?

what does it mean when a fish just lies on the sandbed? when it swims, it seems like its trying hard to swim

Possibly a swim bladder disease ? If thats what it is there probably isnt a lot of hope for it. Can you put it in a Q tank so it doesent get picked on ? .......Mike

is it contagious? no one picks on the fish.. and it's been doing it for awhile now.

The behavior you describe is attributable to a few different problems. You might want to review all of the possibilities here: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/Marind4of6.htm
