Neal359,
I actually recommend using a 4 to 6”+ DSB constructed of dead, fine, aragonite based sands, and: 1 Seeding and feeding it with just a few pounds of live sands from multiple sources. 2 Adding detrivore kits from Indo Pacific Sea Farms and Inland Aquatics. This method “home grows” your sand bed to be uniquely suited to you tanks particular conditions. This also avoids the “die off” and subsequent algae bloom that often occurs with large amounts of “badly treated” live sand.
