Can anybody recommend some mail-order web sites that have been reliable, inexpensive, etc. that they have had a good experience with?

Try Premium Aquatics or Marine Depot. I've received great products and service from both.

There used to be a nice website which offered opinions on several mail order places catering to reefs. It was nice and had all the links. If anyone knows of this it was an excellent resource.

Pauls prefered MO sites.
Drygoods and Livestock = Premium Aquatics Lights = Lampsnow (Hellolights) RO/DI = Aquatic Reef system http://www.aquaticreefsystems.com/ Everything you need can be obtained from these MO shops. They are the best IMO.
