Post feeding the dsb?

I took the need to move my 75 gallon reef as an opportunity to add a 4 inch sand bed. I've seeded it with a kit from IPSF and some live sand I bought locally.

I have three fish, a percula, tang and Pseudochromis(SP?) that get feed daily.

Does one feed the bed additionally? With what?

Thanks.

It will feed off of the leftovers and waste roducts of what you are already feeding the tank so you do not have to feed the sandbed anyhting else. Skip

sorry to tag on to this thread but what do you do if you do not have fish in the tank that you are feeding? I have a newly setup tank, 1 month old. Snails only at this point, will have deetrivore kits on 5" sand bed Friday.

Seado,

In addition to target feeding of fish an corals, I feed my DSB and mud bed with Golden Pearls from Brine shrimp direct.
http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/bri...brineshrimpa29

I use the “Rotifer Size Golden Pearls 100-200 microns (Rotifer / Artemia Replacement)” size.

I have built my 180-gallon system up to the point where it consumes a teaspoon a day.

But this took a 6-month ramp-up.

Start very slowly, with just a pinch or so a day. This is a very “concentrated” food.

Regards,

Scott

Thanks Scott, I was looking at the Golden Pearls based on reading some previous posts by you. I was just unsure about it since I am just getting started. Thanks, will order some tonight.

Scott,

How do you feed the Golden Pearls to the DSB? It is my understanding that it is a powder-type food. (just ordered some but don't have it yet) Do you mix with water and use a baster, or just sprinkle powder into the water?

Sorry to get a little off topic...

Rob

RobG,

Golden pearls are a particle type food.

It disperses throughout the system and settles out on to your sand bed/mud bed.

I have found that the “higher order” detrivores (worms etc.) that this feeds powers the food chain in the DSB.

Golden pearls were recommended to me by Dr. Ron

Regards,

Scott
