Egg Crate

Can someone please tell me where I can get some of this to support my LR when I add my new DSB.

TIA
Michael

Its usally in the lighting department as it is for lights. Runs around $10-12 a sheet.

Curious as to why you would want/need to support
your live rock?

Some people like using it to build shelves to keep the rock up off the sand bed, this way you can use less base rock, keep your water volume higher, and have circulation going around and under the reef. Like the "reef timbers" you see ads for in AFM and other magazines.

You can also use pillars of it in your sand bed to support the rock so it doesn't sink all the way to the bottom and displace the sand.

I have 2 - 2' X 4' sheets set on top of 1/2" PVC pipes so the sheets are 3/4" off the tank bottom. This does 3 things 1st it prevents any digging fish/critters from undermining your rock causing it to become unstable and perhaps fall over. 2nd it distributes the weight of the rock more evenly on the bottom of the tank. If the rocks were flat like a brick it would be no problem but mine only contact on 3-4 very small points with maybe 100-150 lbs of rock above. I don't want this to be digging into the acrylic over time. 3rd it increases your sand surface area for worms and other critters to multiply/hide from my fish who are generally looking for a free meal any time they can get one

HTH,
Kevin

4th .it prevents lateral migration of sandbed fauna rendering the dsb useless(nearly) in the area it occupies.5th.its ugly if you can see it.
just some things to think about. i prefer to put the rocks on the bottom of the aquarium myself.
