Hi Viking,
First of all, F.O.W.L.R. stands for Fish Only With Live Rock. So if you were to put any corals or anemones in it, it would no longer be a FOWLR. But I think I understand your question. It is possible to keep many species of corals in a tank with only normal output fluorescent lamps provided you avoid SPS and other high light demanding species. I am talking about at least 4 fluorescent lamps the length of the tank, not just the two lamps that come as standard with many tanks. If your tank has only two NO fluorescent lamps, you might consider adding four more for a total of six. It would probably be unwise to attempt any of the host anemones in a tank with only NO fluorescent lighting. Before deciding on what corals to add to your FOWLR tank, you should consider whether any of your fish will eat the coral polyps. The reason most people have a FOWLR tank is so that they can keep fish that are not suitable for reef tanks. Ninong |
