Post Need New Pump - Big Flood!!

So I came home to soaking wet carpet cuz my RIO 2500 decided to stop working.

So I need a new pump - the tank is a 72g so probably a min of 750gph. Can you recommend one?

By the way - the RIO was LOUD - so can you recommend one that's:

a) reliable
b) quiet
c) easily available via a LFS (I've got to get it tomorrow)

I'm using a Mag9 for my 75. I'm very pleased with it. You can set it up as in-sump or plumb it outside the sump. It's not as quiet as the really expensive pumps. It is the best bang for your buck, however.

I also have a Mag 9 on a 75 and love it. I do think I might go to a Mag 12 next time around.

Why did it flood? IMO/IME it's best to have your tank setup so it can't flood.= bigger sump antisiphen ect...

Oh...The mag 9 will do 750gph easy. I'm getting that now with all kinds of head pressure.

For an external you cannot go wrong with an Iwaki japense model.

Cool

You've gotten some great advice abougt pumps... I can't add anything to this, except that I like to run the Mag pumps underwater, to glean the waste heat from the pump, and it also seems to run quieter. To my ear anyway.

But the real problem is not the pump, but the plan... please do a simulated pump failure from time to time, just to see what will happen when the pump fails. Set your sump water level accordingly and mark it with a piece of tape (I use white, very visible), so that it can handle the drainback from the tank.

Way back when I had my flight training, the instructors used to simulate an engine out, and we had to find a field, glide in and set up a good landing. They taught us to never depend on a motor, but on the brain instead.

I run a Mag1200(submersed) on my 72g. Perfectly silent, quite reliable. My .02
