man ,youre just asking for flames

most people "on the boards" are gonna say you shouldnt keep either one of these fish in anything less than 300 gallons..........and the clown maybe not at all.....

i myself am not a member of the tang police
i think you could try either one ,provided you dont bring home a 8- 10 inch fish.a smaller 3-5 incher would do nicely in youre tank for a couple years at least .jmo

The Naso Tang is relatively peaceful, the Clown Tang is not... and Clown Tangs have venomous spines. Both of these species really do require a tank larger than 100 gallons. A lot larger.

You should really think about your selection based on your tank size and be guided accordingly. I'm not saying that you should not get any Tang at all just because most of the "experts" say your tank is too small, but what I am saying is that you should do your research first before choosing a Tang for your tank. The best possible choice--based on adult size, temperment, etc.--for a 100 gallon tank would probably be the Yellow Tang. Other species might work almost as well but the Naso Tang and the Clown Tang would be last on the list of possible choices for your size tank.

Good luck,

Ninong

I've always had a soft spot for an archilles.
They're peacefull, right??

I was thinking about keeping an archilles and a purple in the same tank, good idea???

Thanks

Both Purple tang and Archilles tang are agressive tangs but they are both much smaller than Naso tang or Clown tang.

A Naso is peaceful and a small one would be OK for 18 months or so. The size of a full grown one is 18"! The problem will be when it's time to return it to the LFS (assuming you don't get a larger tank. Mine is very tame and eats from my fingers. I wouldn't want to exchange it. You can become quite attached to it. A clown looks cool but has an evil temperment and it's bullying is not restricted to other tangs.

Both purple and Archilles tangs are aggressive and would be a high risk to combine. My guess is the purple would win as they are more hardy then Archilles.

I have a purple and a naso together and it works very well.

HTH,
Kevin

Hopefully it is ok to link to another boards forum. We are having a great tread about tangs. Read it and I think it will help you with your question

Or how about a unicorn tang???

I'm pretty sure I'll stick to one purple.

I really appreciate all the replyes, thanks!
