Sand Bed ???

I need some help, I am currently breaking down a ten gallon reef tank and moving the contents (live rock & sand) over to my 60 gallon tank. I am moving the sand (south down) over slowly, over a couple of weeks to avoid shocking my 60 gallon tank with 40 lbs of new sand. I am also doing this to avoid killing of the fauna in my 60 gallon's sand bed. Is this the best way to go about this???

adding sand has nothing to do with killing your fauna.. the best reason for adding slowly imo is to not cloud the water...

Just so you know Fishkid if you add too much on top of a live sand bed it can smother the life.

Sker I would add it no more that like 1/2 inch at a time. Just do it over a cpl three weeks or longer if need be.

If you cut the bottom out of a clean 2 liter bottle and affix a hose to it you can add the sand to your bed without a big a poof of sand. HTH

......

didnt even think of that sorry for the misinformation! i just guessed that the sand bed from a 10 gal even if it was a 4 inch sand bed wouldnt equate to any more than 1/2 an inch in a 60 gal...

Good tip on the addition of sand to a live sand bed. That is an interesting point and I think a point worth heeding. That is what I love about this meeting place we have. People from all over exchanging new and sometime enlightening points of view.
