An updated pic of my tennis ball sized bubble algae-

If any of you remembered the last pic, it was the size of a golf ball. Now it's about the size of a tennis ball Has any one else had any bubbles this big. I think I've discovered a new way to frag polyps, as the bubble grows it keeps tearing the polyp base.

Smile WHOA!...haha

thats kinda kewl FF!!

do you have a bunch of other ones? or is it basically just the one big ball? I kinda like them....especially when they are shiny looking and have some coralline growing on them, and as long as they dont get out of porpotion. I have one thats almost the size of a nickel...maybe a tad bigger. Does it seem to bother the button polyps (other than tearing the base)? or anything else for that matter? If you wanted to get rid of it I would take the piece of rock out of the tank and pop the bubble then rinse it really good with water from a water change.

I have a few bubbles the size of a dime but this fella is like a sky scraper! I dont know if I want to pop it yet...a part of me wants to see how big it'll get. Not only that but the bubble is on a rather large rock that is covered with polyps. The polyps dont seem to be bothered by it, not yet any way...I also have some bubbles with coraline covering them, they kind look like a christmas bulb

I agree it is interesting to wonder how big that thing will get. However, I would look into making sure that it won't pop on its own. If that thing ever did break I would hate to see the mess. Good luck!

Ya, that is pretty cool. But, I wouldn't want to pop that, I think that inside that bubble it is filled with spores...that could be a lot of valonia (Could you imagine a bubble basketball sized!!!)

I think Jimungus is the scientific term.

I have one that is starting to catch up, it is now about the size of a golf ball. Yours is just huge.

I thought this was grape caulerpa, is it? I have four of them growing in my tank, different locations. They started out tiny, and now they are all pretty large, marble sized on up.

Hmmm, think I can? It's really larger then a tennis ball. The thing is just really getting huge. Any body know how big they can get in the wild?

I've had a few pop up from time to time but none the size of this monster!
My Baensch Atlas, Vol. 1, says Valonia ventricosa achieves a diameter of 5cm. Yours is apparently on steroids!!
BTW, the scientists who decide these things have renamed it and put it in a new genus Ventricaria ventricosa .
