Plumbers Putty?

Is plumbers putty reef safe? The stuff you would use to seal sink drains and such.

I want to use some to secrure my mangroves to a light difusser. I dont want to use epoxy becasue its to rigid and would not allow the mangrove stalk to grow.

Any other suggestions?

I don't know for sure but when I have used it it seems to be oily and to me that would make me think it is petroleum based which I would think it would leech oil into the tank. One possibility is to use aquarium silicone,it may be plyable enough.
Just a suggestion

Personally I would be hesitant to use it, but I don't know anything else to recommend.

I feel it best not to use. I got a MSDS sheet on it and it didnt look safe

I will try and rig something up to secure the mangroves inside the egg crate.

I feel the egg crate is a good thing to use becasue it will allow light to pass thru. I am currently using styrofoam. Although I will have to add some styro to the egg crate to make it float.

I would say NO too....Not because i think its NOT reefsafe, but because it might resctrict the growth pattern of the grove....However i think the eggcrate is a wonderful Idea....just probably gonna have to baby them and adjust them until they get a good foothold.
