I was truly honored to be able to get a Personal tour of this place today.
Well its in Ft. Pierce which is about 3 hrs away from me, But I had the oppurtunity to go there today. I was only gonna spend a few minutes and check it out It would be an understatement if I said this place was amazing!! They are getting very famous for their Clown fish breeding and rearing in captivity amongst other fish (Dottybacks, Gobies, Cardinals...and more) However the real magic is what they just started doing about a year ago...Corals and clams...This follows suit exactly to what I will be doing, as it is all done in greenhouses....I could go on and on about this place, but Im only gonna touch base on a few elements....First off they have over 300 employees (35 of them hold PHD's in Marine Biology) on site, They have over 500,000 gallons of saltwater aquaculture farm in greenhouses. There are even some tubs that where outside w/out covers and they had acros in there that where some of the best acros/sps I have EVER seen! The polyp extensions where crazy mad!! Those of you who do get the Premium Aquatics list every week or so and have seen that they list clams in there with ORA right beside the type of clam....these clams are tank raised as well as spawned! I know what alot of you are gonna want...PICS! I am working on that too....however there this place has its own legal department, They are very finicky about who sees what and have ALOT of curtains that say "Authorized employees only" I never got to see the real good stuff Im sure. However, I spent the whole day there today, and I will be buying corals clams from them once I get my coral farm started. Only retailers are allowed to purchase from them! Here is their websitewww.orafarm.com and their mother company's website http://www.hboi.edu/ |
