From the looks of it I'd say you were really going to go nuts and build your own little mini beach in your yard

Well, I suppose I could let my fellow reefers in Fl. In on a little secret. Marcona industries is the company that mines the sand in the bahamas where they take the sand to Ft. Pierce Florida (this is where I got it) From there it is wholesaled/shipped to Yardright and Southdown, Caribsea etc etc....You CANNOT just roll up there with a pickup truck and say I would like some of that Reef sand that you guys have! Marcona has a contract with Caribsea to NOT sell this sand to any Reefers! If you say you have anything to do with aquariums they will tell you "Sorry Charlie" you cant buy from us. The good part of it is you will pay only 20bux for a ton (2000lbs) of sand....the bad part of it is you have to shovel it yourself! Still you do the math....Im paying LESS than everyone who is buying it at HD!

$20/ton = major profit for Carribsea. Good work, I'm 50 miles south of Ft. Pierce but don't have a pickup. BTW, good luck with the farm I saw one of your previous posts about start up. Personally I think our state is a perfect location for such a venture. PM me when you have frags ready for sale. Good luck

Yeah, and if the farm doesn't pan out you'll have something to burry your head in

Congratulations Scubadude! You're the first reefer that I have heard of that has gotten away with that. Others have tried but been turned away.

Ninong

P.S. -- A lot of different people check these boards. Word of your "accomplishment" may get back to the "wrong" people.

P.P.S. -- It is because of CaribSea's exclusive rights agreement with Marcona Ocean Industries that Home Depot sells Southdown sand in the Gardening Department as a garden soil amendment. In fact, there have even been a few isolated incidents of Home Depot managers refusing to sell it to people who admitted it was for use in a marine aquarium.

Holy Cow! You guys with access to Southdown are spoiled. I tried to get some and failed. Live out west and shipping is a killer. Sand costs me a $1/lb. I figured I needed 500+ lbs. for a DSB, you do the math... it ain't cheap.

Hey Scuba... you better cover that truck up before the cats find it!

Golfish, I live in Kalispell, Montana. 40 miles south of Canada. Most people know if for Glacier National Park and Big Mountain ski resort.

I can't believe it. I have been surfing these boards for a couple years now and never thought I'd see someone else from Montana on the board let alone Kalispell. If you are ever looking to do a salt order give me a holler. I am starting up a 90 salt again and don't want to waste my money at the aquarium shop.
