well i changed my tank from coral to a sand bed. it took a day to clear up. then about a week later it started to get really cloudy and with a green tint to it. it looked like alaefied water. no fish have died that i have noticed, it is hard to see them sometimes. i have tried everything but a complete water change but that will surely kill the fish. anyone have any suggestions.my protien skimmer is running all the time. it is making me want to take the whole tank down.

it is carib sea. the main problem with my tank is the green water. i just got through doing a 50% water change. that cleared it up a little bit, but when i leave the lights on for a long time it turns green again. about two months ago i changed my lighting from 30 watts to 80 watts. everything was fine until last week when i changed my bed from cc to sand. ever since then it pretty much has been cloudy and green. it did clear up for a couple of days after the change. i need help.

Id suggest running chemi pure for a couple weeks rinse it out every other day. Keep up with the water changes, depending on how long you had the CC bed in place you probably released alot of trapped detitrus. The chemi-pure will help remove the green tint which is just an algae bloom. You also want to seed the carib sea sand with either some stuff from local reefers or from www.ipsf.com. By changing out the cc you removed alot of bacteria and now there is excess nutrients. The problem is water changes will pro long the establishment of the new sandbed. Seeding the sandbed will jumpstart the population of bacteria and other critters.
