Could the spike in the nitrites cause the deaths?
i started a new tank 55 gallon. i cycled the water, then added some damsels after a month or so added clowns. they were all fine for a month or so. then i added angel, coral beauty. they stayed for a week and then one day found my fishes dead. i think they had white spot. i treated them, but nothing happened. so i cleaned my whole tank and started again. the damsels survived. they were doing fine, and then they started dying. they fins seemed to be eaten. i dont know what is going on i dont know can anyone help me. put new damsels they died too. my temp is at 78, no traces of ammonia, nitrate but little nitrite. salinity is at 1.023. also my mushroom dont open as they used to before.

Nitrites are toxic to fish. Nitrates are not. What filtration are you using(LR, LS, biological etc) and how long did you cycle the tank for? Did you add any uncured LR? A rise in nitrites are the result of not enough bacteria(in the LR and LS...or in the bio material of a W/D) present to handle ammonia(also toxic). If you're getting nitrite readings, then you need to "beef up" your filtration. Preferably w/ more LR and LS. HTH

I'm pretty sure your suffering from the "new tank syndrome".....
It's responsible for alot of fish deaths.
A too-big-waterchange could have caused it..????
Can you please define "cleaned the tank" ....
