    Post Reef Safe Yellow Tang?

I'd like to get a Yellow Tang for my 55g.I have 4 clownfish(2 Tomatos and 2 Cinnamons....They are doing great..NO FIGHTING).Anyways about the Tang..I have alot of live plants on my 75# of LR, and I know that Tangs are algae eaters but would they eat all my plants too?I don't want to get a Tang if he is going to eat all my plants. Thanks

they are reef safe just make sur it is the last fish you put in because it will become the most agresive fish in the tank in about a month

My Yellow Tang has eaten every bit of Grape Caulerpa I have ever put into my tank. They are safe for corals, but they'll eat most of your macroalgae.

I am quite partial to tangs but if you add one to your tank then kiss your macros goodbye. I once had a blue hippo tang that would destroy a large fish bag full of caulerpa in about 2 weeks. Skip

Well it's looks like the Tang is out of the question! But for anyone looking for a good price I would highly suggest www.reeftopia.com.They have them for $14 (4-5") and Blue Atlantic Tangs for $20.Thanks for the advice.

hmm, $14 plus $30 shipping = $44. For a yellow tang? They are like $20 at my lfs and they always have about 2 dozen to choose from. So maybe not such a great price.

Well if you would only order 1 fish I guess every mail order site would be even higher. If you look on the site you would see that all orders over $150 are up graded to overnite FREE SHIPPING!They have a good selection of good stuff.I've ordered from them 3 times and have never been disappointed.I am in the process of obtaining other clownfish and anemones from them that is not on their site. This site has the best customer service I've ever had.Their prices are great and their livestock is excellent and let me not forget the free shipping!NO I don't own stock or know the owners personally(Edie and Pete).I am simply saying that this is an excellent place and wishing to pass them some an addtional business.Nuf said.BLUESMAN

    Bluesman,

The yellow tang is reef safe, and a great algae grazer/muncher. One thing though, the yellow tangs can get as big as some of the other tang species, and with 4 clownfish (that will eventually grow), I don't think there will be sufficient room in the 55 gallons. If they are small, then that would be good. Flying Fish Express.com sells Hawaii Yellow tangs for $9 for a small one.

    Regards,
    Ilham

I have had my yellow tang for some time and never had any problems with him being aggressive toward any other fish. But he does like to eat me out of house and home.!!!!!
I have never seen him pick on any of my corals.

If you read the latest FAMA, it says NOT to put tangs in a reef. What a bunch of garbage.

IMO, you are going to need a little more room. Tangs tend to need larger tanks.
