aiptasia solution
that rock that i mentioned in my other post, which has a button polyp colony on it, and allot of aiptasia. it turns out the colony is alot larger than i tought, the whole rock is engulf with the polyps, even the underside, when i pulled it out, i had to cut a few polyps off that were attached to several other rocks, the ones that i cut may make it, but the rocks they are on have atleast 5 or so more polyps, so im not gonna worry about fragging the coral.
I also saw that there are 3 species of cool looking sponges on that rock, so i am gonna rule out chucking it in the trash, i am gonna try my luck with giving it to the LFS, there are 2 around here that would take it, and one of them (Country Critters) id feel guilty if i gave it to the, as they have a nice system. I am gonna try giving it to the place i worked at (hahaha) Id be happy if i got $5 for it even though if he sold a colony this size hed probably charge $50 or more, the colonys surface space is about 30 sq. in. and all the polyps are pretty long. I even tryed to see if i could get at the larger aiptasia, but i couldnt believe how deep those crevices went they probably went to the center of the friggin rock! Im gonna try it tonight see what happens. comments? mark |

think i should try the nudibranch approach for the aiptasia that will remain in the tank even after i get rid of that rock?
What about if i try getting a copperband, and giving it back when im done with it? will they get the ones in the little holes that are hard to reach? mmark |

I had those things pretty bad. I put a few peppermint,s in & in less than a week they were gone.
From what I understand about Copper's is they can't get in the places that peppermint can and they might go after other soft coral's L.J.

I tried 3 pep's in a 100g tank and they literally cleaned them up the aiptasia overnight. I tried kalk'ing but it is hard to get at them (24" high) tank and lots of rock... Pep's rule!

I haven't noticed any problems (3 pep's and a cleaner)... I hardly see the pep's ... they stay on the backside and undersides of my LR (I have many caves, overhangs, nooks and crannies -- which makes the kalk'ing option nonviable). The cleaner roams wherever and definitely has no interest in aiptasia. I certainly have plenty of room for 4 shrimp... the pep's are very small 1-1.5" at most...
