Barry, just to let you know...When Jim was here last Sunday I was showing him my new Vietnamese Maxima and I asked him if he had known about these, he said yes, but that the Vietnam Crocea is an extremely hard clam to keep. In fact, he shrugged his shoulders and that was enough said. FWIW..

Yes I heard the samething about the small clams from Vietnam but I don't know how true is that about the larger ones. The one I have is 6" so who knows.
I have e-mailed Daniel Knop, hopefully he can shead some light on it. Barry |

DAMN! I was in the area yesterday and passed right by. I was practicing this new "resist the temptation to spend money" thing and was so proud of myself for passing by, but now I wish I would have stopped.

I got a reply back from Daniel Knop regarding the Vietnam T. Crocea. I will post his note to me when I get home.

My question to Daniel Knop.
Quote: All of a sudden there are a lot of clams showing up from Vietnam. Some people say that the Vietnam T. Crocea are hard to keep. Have you heard anything regarding this subject? His reply to me: Quote: " Well, T.Crocea is not really hard to keep, but it is also not the most hardy giant clam that many aquarist see in it. Many people belive that it is easy to keep, but T. Crocea is not as hardy as T. maxima or T. Squamosa. Those two are in my experence easier to maintain, but t. crocea is definitely durable and under proper conditions it can be maintained in a reef tank. Just make sure that it does notget too much floating particles when you stir up sediments in the gravel. This species easily gets clogged gills, which is lethal. They like clear and clean water." He doesn't say or gereralize anything about Vietnam clams. I am glad to know about the clogging of the gills. Thanks Daniel ![]() Last edited by Barry N.; 02-11-2002 at 12:18 PM. |

I think that I would say that about any of the clams we keep. I dont think that says anything particular about Vietnam clams...
Which incindentally..is good for you ![]()

Jason, I this is how I learn about things. I hear someone make a statement then I do some research on the subject matter. That is what is good about these Reef BB. You can always learn something new.
