Will a Powder Blue & Yellow tang be ok?

I have a 5"- 6" Cheveron and 5" Yellow Tang in my 110 reef. The Yellow Tang is the master of the tank. I want to remove the Cheveron and add a 3" Powder Blue Tang, will this work. I know we don't want the same body type, but will I have success?

Yellow tangs are not too aggressive. Powder Blue tangs are very aggressive. I think you can add a smaller PB in your tank and it will be OK but the PB need to be healthy and get use to eating in captivity (you need to quarantine and feed the PB until it get use to eating aggressively). In a few months, the PB will be the master of the tank. Also PB grow very fast if condition is right and will be larger than the Yellow tang in no time at all.

IME rating you can never tell how aggressive tangs will be. KOLE tang = mellow? I had one almost kill a purple tang so I removed the kole but the purple was alot smaller. So you never know. PB are had to find a good one = most don't ship well and/or they aren't collected well . If you do buy one from a lfs. Buy it and let them hold it for a week or 2 and make sure it eats or buy one that you have seen in there systems for a few weeks. The best thing you could do is remove the yellow for a few days or weeks. Otherwise the pb may nver have a chance. IME all tangs fight the first week for sure.

You might be able to keep things calm by turning off the lights and rearranging the landscape a little. Keep the light off for about an hour. This has worked for me...

Send a message via AIM to Poseidon
I would skip the PB all together they seem to be #1 Ich fish out there... They are smashing to look at, but let someone else take the risk...

I just added a Powder blue to my tank about three weeks ago. I have a Purple tang (10 months) and a Hippo tang (2 years) ....they get along fine....Different shapes is what you want.

3 tangs in a 4' tank on my goosh No but as I said earlier or kinda said it's good to have different types but each fish is different. Koles are suppose to be mellow mine was a terror. I even had a nice large yellow tang thatbecame a coral killer I had to get rid of it. I had it in a 55g and it killed lsp. I had a 10" bubble it killed. probally not feed enough. I feed it 2x and it even ate handfuls of hair from my whispher filter. I used a fw filter no skimmer and tap water, feed handfuls of food. never had alga. I use ro water have a good skimmer and an alga tank and still get alittle if I feed to much. Man that was the best eating fish I had. But my sailfin is a good eater. I hear PB would never get along with a hippo. I guess GF does. PB is my favorite. I plan on having one in my next tank maybe. But putting the yellow in a different tank sounds good.
