The stupid idiot that I am....????

I am so brainless sometimes....here's what I did: I received 3 pounds of that rock pool crude mud stuff from PA today. And for some unknown STUPID idiotic reason, I put it in the REFRIDGERATOR for 7 hours while I was at work.

Ok...don't know what I was THINKING...what are the chances of it being worth putting into my refugium? The tank is nearing the ending stages of it's cycle and live rock is all that's in the tank.

I KNOW that I shouldn't have done this. Don't even ask why I did it. I couldn't begin to tell you. I must have had a major brain fart when I did it. Thanks guys.

if you put it in the styrofoam container you may be alright. you may loose some of the beneficial critters and retain the bacteria. fwiw i received a shipment of ls that was 1 day late and traveled to my house during a snowstorm. needless to say the sand was very cold. i could see many dead critters but also saw a lot of live ones. once in tank it seemed to do well and know have tons of goodies in my sand. i would just be careful of a cycle or ammonia spike...

see if you can put it in a 5 gal bucket for a week or two, i would let it cure a little, from all the dead critters in there, there may be a major ammonia skyrocket! then put it in a little at a time so just in case there is a ammonia skyrocket, it isnt as drastic. HTH at least thats what i would do...

My husband heard me laughing and asked what was so funny. Of course, what you did isn't funny, but it's sure typical of something I'd do.

I'm with the other guys on this one. I like the five gallon bucket idea of sort of curing out the dead stuff. I bet there's going to be a lot more surviving life than you think.

Don't forget to put a power head in the bucket.

DOn't feel too bad.... A week ago I almost drank saltwater!!! I use the brita pitcher to mix a small amount of saltwater. Well, I don't know why, but I ended up putting it in the fridge. Couple hours later, I poured myself a glass, and almost spilled the whole thing when i moved my mouth away, but the glass was already tipping.

Bad experience.....

I ordered ten pounds of it and have not noticed ANYTHING. I am sure it has lots of benifical bacteria, but where are the snails, worms, etc.??

It has been in my refugium for several days and I have not seen anything. It does cloud the tank and sump COMPLETELY with the smallest disturbance. I am going to have to cover it will dry sand to stop this. The tank literally looks like chocolate milk or coffee if I so much as touch it. [img]/ubb/frown.gif[/img]

The other day, I emptied the putrid, foul-smelling scum out of my skimmer collection cup and wiped it out with a utility hand towel after rinsing it. A few minutes later, I accidentally splashed some salt water on my face, so I went to the sink, rinsed my face with fresh water, and proceded to wipe my face with the same towel I had just used to clean out my skimmer's "septic tank." I basically smeared fish s**t all over my face. (Now, I've noticed small white spots on my skin, and I find myself rubbing up against brick walls and rocks.)
