cycling question.. but not exactly

I'm setting up a 29 gallon next to my 75 gallon which is going to be all connected with an overflow. Do I need to cycle my 29 gallon as well? or would it be ok since 75 gallon has been set up for more than a year and is stable?

No you won't, the bacteria in your main tank will do the work until it grows in the new tank.

Are you going to stock this tank or use it as a refugium?

If your going to stock it add slowly to alow your bio-filter to adjust. And add only cured LR. And keep in mind what you would really have is a 104g tank.

nice! thank u very much for the answer. I will be moving my LR from the 75 to 29 since i'm converting the 75 to agressive tank. my 29 will be made in to a reef. thanks again for the answer

I think it also depends on if your going to add more LR or uncured LR or anything. if you add more LR there may or may not be a spike and cycle depending on how much die off there is. If the amount of die off excedes the capability of the current bacterium to process that die off then there will be a cycle and or spike. I'd say just follow the old adage take it slow.

Henry
