As a beginner in this hobby I am often confused reading term "sudden change". Let's say - sudden change in water temperature... How fast it should change and how big amplitude should it be to be considered "sudden"?
![]() Is a change from 78F to 80F over one night to be considered "sudden"? Is 2-degree change noticeable at all to marine fish or invertebrates? How much water temperature changes on the reef from day to night? How much temperature changes in your tanks with a heater going on-off-on-off... ? |

A 2 degree change overnight should not be a problem. If you're seeing, say a 5 degree change, then I'd try to get it more stable.

Hi Pszemol!
Welcome to Reefland!
Reef temps are always highly debated discussions. Lots of people with lots of different experiences both good and bad. I performed a search on temperature and here is a thread with a poll that brings out some passion in this temp debate. ![]() What is your IDEAL temperature range Scott Z. |
