Wife's new Tank Q
I have set up a 20 long with a DSB, 2x32 PCs in the canopy, with a powerhead and a Prizm skimmer for my wife. She will now be able to keep all of the creatures, mainly crabs and shrimp, that I prefer not to include in my reef which includes much LPS and SPS. What I would like to do is to remove a piece of my LR that has become covered in purple mushrooms and place it in her tank. Here is the question: The new tank is not yet cycled and I feel the LR would add greatly to the future health and diversity of the DSB as well as help the tank to achieve a good strong bacterial culture. BUT, I don't want to murder the mushrooms by placing them in an uncycled system if they can't handle it. Does anyone know how tough mushrooms are regarding putting them through a cycle?

80CI,
Why not wait until the tank has cycled before adding the mushroom encrusted rock? No need to put the shrooms through unneeded stress! JMO Ryan |

Here's the plan
Thank you for the replies! Here's what I think I'll do. My reason for concern is that I have spiked the tank with a ground up shrimp, 1 week ago, to get the cycle going and the ammonia level is high. I should have placed the mushroom rock at the beginning and the tank would now likely be fully cycled, so:
1. I'm going to do a 30% water change 2. Put the mushroom rock in It has been fully cycled and is IMO large enough to handle the non-existant bio load of the new tank. It itself will be the bio load. If any of you have any concerns or advise, please reply, I'm planning on doing this in a couple of hours. Thanks again! |
