Pure aragonite/southdown

Just wanted to share some info with everyone. I ordered some sand today from http://www.purearagonite.com I am unable to get southdown in my area(that I know of). Any ways
after my order I was asked how I found out about them and told them a chat room(reefland). Jim at pure aragonite told me that is how they get most of their business. I then told him alot of
people are using southdown if they can get it. He
told me that yes the sand comes from the exact same place, and they lose alot of business to them.
He also told me that southdown refers many people to them and southdown is trying to deter people from using their sand in reef tanks. What
I was told is that southdown also makes fertilizers and other products in the same plant where they bag the sand and cannot insure the
purity of the sand. I just thought I would share
this little bit of information I stumbled across.
Im not verifying the truth to this, just thought it was interesting. Also it helps me get over the
fact that I paid $265.00 for sand

Aaa, that sounds like a bunch of fertilizers to me there's way to many people using this stuff. I bet CaribSea had something to do with that rumor

probably right. I am trying to believe it is true though, just so it is a little easier to
stomach what I paid for sand

I ordered 500lbs It will be shipped tomorrow
morning. How much do you have? Im sure I ordered more than I needed but I would rather have too much than not enough. I think almost half the cost is in shipping,so I dont want to have to reorder more.

Send a message via ICQ to asmith
I have heard that too, but I have not heard of any problems so far. I am using it in my tanks without problems. Don't feel bad about ordering more than you need. We managed to get some transfered to the Kansas City area last June. I planned for the future and bought 2000 pounds of it. I only needed 250 pounds for my tank.

ASmith -- I am in Kansas City also, and have been trying (unsuccessfuly) to locate some southdown for my new 125g - I tried purearagonie.com but ended up cutting a price deal with my LFS -- you said you have 2000lbs of the stuff - intrested in selling any of it to me? I dont want to back out of the deal I struck with my LFS, but I do need some more and if the price is right it might be worth a trip to Lenexa!
