    sally lightfoots

in terms of assimilation and care and hardiness
    are they similar to hermits?
also will something like a hermit kill or harm it in any way?

    thanks

I've had one for about three years now. Very easy to keep. Mine has gone from about an over all length of an inch to almost 4 inches. Never has caused problems with anything. When I first got it with it being so small it hid alot- now it is always in view. I have just started to add corals in the last two months but so far the sally has shown no interest in them. I doubt if a hermit or anything will harm it . They are quite fast. It is one of the longest living crabs I've had.

    Venaman,
It's hard to tell sometimes. One morning before work I glanced in my tank and saw my sally upside down. I grabbed it out and was sure it was dead. I gave it a toss while getting into my car and when I got home that evening it was sitting in my tank. I guess the molted shell had filled with water and gave it some weight.
It has molted more times than I can remember and it always looked and felt like a dead crab.
If you have kids. Glue the shell on a piece of cardboard and let it dry out. Makes a great "Show and Tell". ;)

ironcrab, do you have any small fishes?i really like sally's ,but i had one that ate three fish, since then i dont keep them, ive been thinking of gettin some small ones and just keeping an eye on them, probly remove them within a few months or so.....they cant be trusted when they get big ime.
they are the most active /outgoing crabs that ive had i like that

    Org,
I have 1 damsel, 1 clownfish, 1 lawnmower blenny and a foxface. In the smaller tank - the sally started to get aggressive towards my fish but in the bigger tank- no problems. I also have some peppermints and a cleaner. The sally spends most of it's time digging around in the sand and eating algea. I don't think I lost anything because of the sally. I had an arrowcrab and when it got big it was bad news for just about everything. Bill
